What a wild mix: 34 bands pay tribute to the Basque musician and film director FERMIN MUGURUZA and interpret songs from his former legendary bands Kortatu or Negu Gorriak, his solo albums such as ‘Brigadistak Sound System’, ‘Euskal Herria Jamaica Clash’ or the album with ‘DUT’.
FERMIN MUGURUZA, born in 1964, was and is the musical voice of the struggle for the independence of the Basque Country in the 80s and 90s. The French label SABOR DISCOS has teamed up with the German music collective LUCHA AMADA and their label JUMPUP to put together a compilation with reinterpretations of classics by FERMIN MUGURUZA and his bands from the last forty years. Available on three vinyls or a double CD in book format, with an extensive booklet with texts by the bands and the authors Kirmen Uribe and Miquel Ramos on the influence of the internationalist Fermín Muguruza. Artists from the Basque Country, Catalonia, Spain, Italy, France, Mexico, Argentina, Ecuador, Uruguay, Chile, Germany and Japan translate Fermín's songs into their own style ... and sometimes even into their own language! Fittingly, we find translations into Mapudungun, the language of the Mapuche, whose fight for their rights was always supported by Fermín, into French, Italian or Spanish. Or imagine Sarri Sarri in Japanese: FERMIN MUGURUZA's network is worldwide. We also find artists singing in Basque for the first time - music as a transmitter of messages, but also of Languages…
