Spike Lee’s newest joint Highest 2 Lowest takes a look into the life of the fictional Stackin Hit’s record label founder (Denzel Washington). The soundtrack aptly features a curated list of original songs from music greats and inspiring new artists. Budding songbirds Jensen McCrae and Aiyana-Lee both contribute their signature vocals to the album, while Harlem legend Eddie Palmieri delivers high-energy performances with his salsa orchestra. The real stand-out is fellow New York native, A$AP Rocky (who also stars in the film), dropping two hard-hitting earworms that remind us why he is one of rap’s modern superstars. The soundtrack’s star power is grounded by a sweeping orchestral score composed by Howard Drossin and complimented by the jazz-pianist led Fergus McCreadie Trio.
