Following their formation in 1976, The Damned is one of the most prestigious bands coming out of the 70s British punk rock scene. The band emerged from the London punk scene, earning an ever-expanding fan base fueled by legendary live shows. Their dark lyrics and Dave Vanian's rich baritone vocals also catapulted The Damned to the forefront of the Goth-Rock Genre. Their most recent studio album, “DARKADELIC” (2023), became a major success, reaching the UK Top 10 and charting across several European territories. The album is critically by both press and fans and was supported by an extensive European tour that sold out venues across multiple countries. Today, The Damned are as successful as ever, following their reunion in the original line-up, including Dave Vanian on vocals, Captain Sensible on bass, Brian James on guitar, Rat Scabies on drums and joined by longtime keyboardist Monty Oxymoron. Founding guitarist Brian James passed away in March 2025, making this chapter in the band’s history both a celebration of their achievements and a tribute to his lasting influence.
The Damned return with a personal and celebratory record, “Not Like Everybody Else”, a tribute to the band’s late guitarist Brian James, who passed away on March 6th, 2025. Recorded in an astonishingly swift five days at Revolver Studio in Los Angeles with producer Mikal Blue (OneRepublic, Jason Mraz), the album includes renditions of 10 well-known songs by some of the artists that influenced Brian on his musical journey and inspired the rest of the band. Kicking off with R. Dean Taylor’s “Ghost In My House” and moving through classics like Pink Floyd’s “See Emily Play” and The Animals’ “When I Was Young”, the album closes with The Rolling Stones’ “The Last Time”, a moving track featuring Brian James himself, culled from original live performances and carefully remixed for this release, cementing the record as both a tribute and a farewell.
