Two women with strong characters. And two fascinating life stories. Hanmari Spiegel from South Africa, Aino Löwenmark from Sweden, found and stayed in Hamburg. Together they have suffered and loved, tried out and inspired. All these experiences resonate and make Fjarill a musical event all its own, embracing the world in its diversity and letting its subtle nuances sparkle.

When Hanmari plays her violin airily and intensely, when Aino accentuates and sensitively lets her piano ring out, when they sing individually or together in Swedish, Afrikaans, Zulu and German, it unleashes an entrancing dynamic that, like the butterfly that gives the band its name, moves playfully between folk, pop, classical and jazz. With "Walden” Fjarill presents their tenth album. And on this anniversary record is abundantly clear to hear: Hanmari and Aino have become more uncompromising in their compositions in the very best sense. 

Their connection is so intimate that they can play quite freely on this basis. The title "Walden” stands first of all quite concretely for the joint studio in the north of Hamburg that bears this name. And where the current songs were created together with their musical Fjarill family. With Aino's husband Jürgen Spiegel on drums and Omar Rodriguez Calvo on double bass, who otherwise play with the renowned Tingvall Trio. "Walden” is a strong emblem of the duo's long grown interconnections.

Much like the roots in the forest are connected underground, Fjarill's music feeds off their far-flung network. "Our families, friends and our loyal fans are in all of our melodies” says Hanmari. "Our songs are about absolutely responding to each other“ . It's an energy that immediately transfers to the audience.
